File backup, lots of activity then nothing

New user of server backup.

We have a server which is quite active with a lot of files in many folders. There is a C and E drive, E contains most of the data. It transacts data between different systems so there are many temp files.

I’ve setup a File/Folder backup to Azure storage, I’ve excluded a lot of the folders with these temp files in from the backup process.

The backup proceeded what appears to be correctly then after 30 mins it appears to be hung. There is about 6GB uploaded to Azure storage and the “Reading MFT record” count is increasing continuously.
Total files are 55687936, it is currently at 60102301.

The last entries in the logs (I enabled high logging level) state

The last file it says it backed up is one of the last non system files on the C:.

I’m guessing it’s cataloging the contents of the E drive with all the temp data on? Is this all normal?

[reply=“Damo;d2323”] if you’re excluding the data it should not be cataloged. Are you sure that everything is backing up that shouldn’t be is explicitly excluded from the backup?

a little patience was the resolution

many thanks
