Full Consistency Check with S3/Glacier
A question on the CB 7.0 backup options with S3/Glacier storage.
Is it reasonable to check the "Enable Full Consistency Check" if using S3/Glacier storage? What happens behind the scenes for this? Is it going to trigger a large data retrieval? Will it trigger a 4 hour pause for a Glacier request?
I would not do that with S3 Glacier / Glacier. Initiating a consistency check will require a long wait time of 4-5 hours. How much data is retrieved during that time, I cannot say. I do not believe it's moving / staging the data, but instead refreshing the inventory stored in S3 from the the data in Glacier. Either way, it's a wait, and there may be cost involved.
. That makes sense.
A related question: What about the new synthetic full backup? Is that appropriate with S3/Glacier?
