We are using the Cloudberry Backup for VMWare application (latest version and patched). Vmware Essentials Plus application (6). One of our critical legacy systems must still run on a Windows XP instance (still trying to find suitable replacements). We are getting errors on this particular virtual XP system when running the backup routine. The virtual XP system stops responding with some error relating to the system boot configuration. Knowing XP is not officially supported by Cloudberry anymore, are there any CB configuration suggestions in performing the backup process on virtual XP systems that may reduce or eliminate potential failure when backup up the system?

    Hello Doug,
You might have to shut down the Win XP VM before backing it up. Please try that and let me know if that helps!

Appreciate the suggestion. Unfortunately, this particular system controls a part of our production line 24x7, is a proprietary software application, and unable to shut down daily. Maybe once a week during a scheduled maintenance window, but we do need nightly backups of this system. I realize this is a challenge and it needs to be moved off of XP and we are working on it... Unfortunately, the original application developer is no longer in business and has been very challenging to find alternative. So we are stuck right now on XP.

The Windows XP doesn't have VSS, so it has to be shut down/suspended/on hold to be backed up.
The other alternative would be creating the replicas of that VM and backing them up instead of the running VM.

It seems to work better just doing a file-level backup vs. do a full VM backup on this system. But, the idea of replicas is interesting, we may try that too. Much thanks!
