Hyper V backups, do I need additional sockets?

Just wanted to make sure I’m understanding this right.
I’ve got 2 hyper-V servers, 1 hosting 6 VMs, another hosting 2.

Do the ‘sockets’ apply to physical sockets on the physical hyper-v hosts, or to the virtual sockets assigned to VM’s?

According to this article it seemed to me like it applied to physical, but the documentation wasn’t clear.

[reply=“Hunter;d2211”] Physical sockets. If you both your servers are 1 or 2 CPU Socket Servers, then two base VM licenses - one for each server is fine.
