Image Restore, Like Windows System Restore, Via Remote Session

Hey @TimeTraveler,

The new Restore Wizard is expected to include a “restore to a different computer” option in one of the upcoming updates

For now, here’s what you can do:

  1. Prepare for full system restore
  • Create a bootable USB drive or ISO file using MSP360
  1. Get access to the new machine (bare metal)
  • Physical machine: You’ll need physical access at least once to boot it from the MSP360 bootable USB. After that, the machine will show up in the Management Console, and you can connect to it (via MSP360 Connect) and continue the restore remotely.
  • Hyper-V VM: If you have access to the host, just create a new VM and mount the ISO you created earlier. This guide walks through it: https://help.mspbackups.com/restore/bare-metal/recovery
  1. Run the restore
  • Once you’re in the recovery environment, just create and run a restore plan on the target machine.

There’s also a workflow for restoring to a different computer, but this should get much easier once the updated Restore Wizard is released.
