Object Lock (Immutability) Updates in MSP360 Backup 8.6

We’ve significantly expanded Object Lock support in MSP360 Backup 8.6.

Object Lock puts a time-based lock on backup data in storage — while active, data can be read and restored, but cannot be modified or deleted by any means.

What’s new:

Object Lock is now available for:

  • FFI (Forever Forward Incremental) backups

  • SQL Server backups

  • Legacy Backup Format

New storage destinations: MSP360 storage powered by Wasabi and Amazon S3, any S3-compatible storage supporting Object Lock (MinIO, IDrive E2), Azure and Google (self-configuration).

Two types of Object Lock:

Default Object Lock — locks all backup data written to a destination automatically. Configured at the storage destination level, applies to all backup plans using it.

Object Lock for GFS Backups — locks only full backups selected by GFS retention policy. Configured in the backup plan settings.

Both types can be used together for layered protection.

Available in MSP360 Managed Backup and MSP360 Backup PRO for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Note: Azure and Google Cloud storage require manual configuration on the storage side — Object Lock cannot be configured for them via Management Console.
