I would like to restore an image backup of my C: drive, but I get a message saying Restore to a boot volume is not allowed can anyone guide me through the correct way of restoring a bootable volume.

Firstly, you need to create a bootable USB/ISO. Follow steps in the link below.

Next, boot it and restore disk.
