It isn't normal Mac app behavior to use the /opt directory - even though /opt is technically part of the FHS it hasn't ever really been adopted in macos.

In fact even with my machine set up as a dev box with lots of homebrew stuff installed, cbb is the only thing that has created that folder. An old machine happened to have that folder created, looks like the last time it was used was ~2015 so back in either the very early homebrew days or the fink day.

The preferred location for /opt is actually /usr/local/opt, but really /usr/local (without the opt subdirectory) would be even more appropriate on modern Macs. (/usr/local is even called out in Apple's system integrity page as a location that isn't protected https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204899)
