This is planning for an image backup and restore strategy. I haven't done the image backup yet. I already do file backups, so this part of the plan is about image restore in case of disk failure. The scenario is bare metal recovery to a new drive. What if the new (replacement) drive is smaller than the drive that was backed up (the original image backup)? Assuming the partitions are not fully utilized and have room to be shrunk, can the bare metal recovery flow do that partition resizing (downsizing)?

I realize I'd know the answer if I'd tried the whole process from front to back, but I just haven't had that chance yet.

Yes, we do have an option to restore to dissimilar hardware. And resizing the partitions is one of the things that is included into it.

While we are adding some finishing touches to our new KB, I suppose you can check this article for now: https://www.cloudberrylab.com/blog/how-to-resize-a-partition-during-image-based-restore/

    Hope it helps.
