If we have a VM host that has a VM running Microsoft Exchange, what is the best approach to setup backups?

From what I have read thus far, I believe that the only way to backup Exchange and to truncate the logs is to have a MSP360 Exchange version running on the VM itself.

However, if we want to protect the entire VM for disaster recovery we also need the VM version running on the VM host??

Am I correct? If so, is there a plan to change this, so we can avoid having to have to license two different versions of the product?

Also, for the Exchange version will it allow granular restore to individual mailboxes?
