I've gotten a response from support on this, and read about the options here on the site, but I still don't know what my best choice is here.
I'm hoping someone might be able to clarify the symlinks backup options when backing up my Linux VPS.
I guess I'm asking, if I'm a typical user without any special circumstance, which option would be recommended to give the same restore of my current files and structure?
Do not back up symlinks
Back up symlinks only
Back up original files instead of symlinks
Back up original files in their original locations
Back up original files in their original locations and symlinks
in fact, it depends on your needs. I would use the "back up symlink only" option because it gives me an expected result(the software backs up exactly what I chose). But in your case, if you do not really sure what to back up, I would use the last option - "back up original files in their original locations and symlinks".
Please note that with this option, the software will back up symlinks and original files, so there will be more backup data.
Thank you for the explanation Klim. That's very helpful! I think I have it now.
