Restore Verification (beta)
To ensure backup reliability, MSP360 Managed Backup provides a feature called Restore Verification. The feature is still in beta, which means you will see further improvements, but now is the time when your feedback can result in positive changes to the product.
This feature is designed to make sure your image-based and Hyper-V backups can be restored. If you haven’t heard about this feature and would like to get more information on its operation, please refer to our
Restore Verification Blog
Briefly, Restore Verification allows you to make sure you can start up (restore) the OS in the event of a disaster and prepares the restoration process to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible. If the Restore Verification finds an issue, you can take action
disaster strikes; saving you time and reducing stress when a real disaster strikes.
Restore Verification is located on the Backup Storage tab. Right-click on one of the image-based backups in your storage and select Restore Verification in the context menu.
MSP360 Managed Backup then creates and executes a test restore plan that downloads a part of the backup data required to start a test Windows Hyper-V VM. The virtual machine state is displayed in the preview screenshot:
Please, leave your suggestions and comments below.
I noticed you mentioned it downloads "a part of the backup data required to start a test Windows Hyper-V VM" Could you elaborate on that and exactly what data would be getting restored? Thanks.
During the Restore verification process, we create a virtual machine and emulate its disk. When the running OS requests the parts it needs to start, the software downloads them. So, it is only the data needed to boot the virtual machine.
