By the way, we have just released Backup v 2.5.0.39 with the memory leak fixed - it is available for download on our main website

    3. By this I mean the "total memory usage" = "static value" + "dynamic value".
The dynamic value is what you can set in Settings > Advanced.
The static value is ~30 MBs for the libs the app uses.
Some more details on memory usage here: https://support.cloudberrylab.com/portal/kb/articles/backup-for-windows-how-to-increase-upload-speed

    4. No worries, it would be a valid complaint if it was one. Indeed the product needs more documentation. We know it and we have plans to introduce some.
Moreover, a part of it is already done, just not published - for example, https://cloudberry.gitbook.io/cloudberry-backup-for-macos-linu

I am not sorry I asked, quite the opposite, you are showing us what questions a user has when they use the app the first time. This is what we should consider in our Help material. Thanks for sharing!

I will pass the info to the right department of ours.
For now let me answer your questions:

    - Repository things are explained here: https://support.cloudberrylab.com/portal/kb/articles/backup-repository-explained - all the logic is the same in both Windows and Mac versions; GUI differs of course.

    - The progress bar heavily relies on how the app processes the large amount of files - by 1000.
It puts ~1000 files to the backup queue and works with them (upload and all the local processing things).
The progress bar indicates how things are going with the current queue, not the total number of files to backup.
It would not be possible to change the progress bar without changing the whole queue architecture - so for now we have no plans about it.
  • IS the help button supposed to do anything?
It is supposed to show some explanation text on mouse-over event, it does for me in the 2.5.0.32 build.
The text is along the lines of: "Total files size is the size of all files in this backup. The real size of the data...."
  • IS the help button supposed to do anything?
, could you please specify where it is? I don't seem to find it and I can't remember of a "?" button
  • 2 Plans don't run at the same time?
, also after switching you might want to clear the logs manually - anything under this name "/opt/local/CloudBerry Backup/logs/log_worker"*
Otherwise they will be cleared automatically after the set number of days (the default is 3 days).
  • No block-level backup for mac?
It does, of course, we're just trying to think cases through - it could be something specific that would require additional handling.
    Thanks for the details!
  • IS the help button supposed to do anything?
Hi . Let me answer this during the week, I left my Mac in the office.
  • Mac memory hog
    Hi .

    1. The memory usage is a bug. It is supposed to be fixed in this build - http://chilp.it/8a79448 (the link will only live for 1 week) - please give it a try.

    2. There is no such a manual yet (we plan to make one).
The .plist is located here: /Library/LaunchDaemons/cloudberry-backup.plist
I believe you won't need it after step 1

    3. The memory usage of plan worker process is the "memory usage" setting value + static less-than-30 MB for the libs.
I don't remember that for cbbWebAccess but obviously it's not supposed to be that large, most likely below 50 MBs. Let me get back with the answer during the week.

    4. What else would you prefer us to include to the manual?
  • No block-level backup for mac?
    Hi . It is true.
Block-level is going to be added in the version 2.5.1 that is coming later this month or (depending on how testing stage goes) early September.

Out of curiosity, what kind of files do you plan to backup with block-level?
  • Feature Request: List of failed files
Hi . Please check out the filter called Operation Type in the History, if you select Failed, only the files that failed will be listed.

Our current idea about it would be to automatically open History with that filter on while the user clicks on the "fail". Would this make it easier to find out the list of failed files?
We also plan to add a feature to export the list into a CSV.

Also, debug logging won't change anything in the app including the History, it only affects logs. I wouldn't recommend setting debug logs - it is really rarely required. And they may take up GBs of disk space
  • 2 Plans don't run at the same time?
Hi . There is a bug when under specific circumstances 2 plans indeed don't run at the same time. For us to make sure whether it is the case or not please send diagnostic logs from the Feedback menu - add "for Caleb, from forum" to the description and press Send. Thanks in advance.
  • Feature Requests
    Hello .

Thanks for your suggestions, I'm filing them to R&D.

As for the logo, this is possible now - contact your account manager, they will forward it to whoever is responsible
  • Unexpected purge/re-backup behaviour
there's a thread about it somewhere here on the forum. It's not the full list, just the most interesting things - the full list for 2.5.0 would contain over 150 items, most of them don't deserve your attention.
  • Unexpected purge/re-backup behaviour
Hi , there was a bug in Backup v 2.4.* where under specific conditions all versions of files were purged even if it contradicted the retention policy.
We have fixed it in Backup v 2.5, now retention policy works correctly.
Please upgrade to the latest available version.
    Sorry for the inconvenience!
  • Cloudberry linux Cli
in Linux and Mac? No, not yet. We have it on our roadmap but it's too early to set and ETA now
  • Cloudberry linux Cli
to add to this, the currently released version can only do full file backup. Block level backup is coming soon, most likely this month - we are finishing the development and starting the testing stage these days.
  • Incorrect price?
Hi . Indeed, the link is wrong. We will update it shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience!
  • Too long
Hello , we will need diagnostic logs from the app.
The best way to send them is [./cbb sendLog] in CLI or the Feedback button in the top menu in GUI.
It will automatically open a support ticket as well, so our techs will be able to assist you properly.
    Thanks in advance!
  • Here are our plans. What else do you want to be added?
Hi. We do have this planned for the future, although at this point it is too early to set an ETA. Thanks for your suggestion!
  • valid file names
    Hi again.

Here it is, see the attached pic (not sure how the text will be shown here).
    " /Users/nann/Desktop/Jungle Disk Files/mac’s Computer/Users/mac/Documents/AppleWorks User Data/Starting Points/Recent Items/Greek Chicken Pizza .cwk "
    " /Users/nann/Desktop/Jungle Disk Files/mac’s Computer/Users/mac/Documents/AppleWorks User Data/Starting Points/Recent Items/Armenian Bean Salad .cwk "
" /Users/nann/Desktop/Pages Documents/recipes/jellies, butters and such/Slow Cooker Pennsylvania Dutch Spiced Apple Butter .pages "
    " /Users/nann/Desktop/Pages Documents/recipes/Pad Thai .pages "

The "spaces" are not spaces actually, but rather are tabs. I don't know how they got to the file names, but I doubt it was done for a reason. Other than that backup was absolutely fine.
